Talent Nation’s tenure and exposure to the sector positioned us to collate accurate remuneration data from the ESG, Environment and Sustainability sector, to build this valuable asset to assist with pay equity, retention and attraction. This information is now used to inform salary structures across different role types and regions within Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Key Findings

  • Heads of Sustainable Finance/ Responsible Investment are the highest paid individuals in this report with an average Total Remuneration Package of $504,061.
  • 2023-2024 data shows a 50% decrease in gender pay disparity.
  • 64% of respondents have been in their role less than 2 years.
  • Two thirds of respondents expect their teams to grow over the next 12 months.
  • Talent Attraction & Retention was amongst the two main challenges in the past 12 months.
  • Climate Change and Developing a Net Zero pathway were the main priorities for organisations.
  • New Zealand ESG, Environment and Sustainability professionals earn 25% lower salaries than their Australian counterparts. 
  • 40% of organisations have Executive KPIs linked to ESG and sustainability measures.
