Known for technical excellence and a strong commercial mindset, the team partners closely with Tier 1 clients to deliver complex approvals, biodiversity, offsetting and environmental solutions across state and Commonwealth jurisdictions.
With a strong pipeline of existing work through long-standing repeat clients, and ambitious growth targets, the organisation is seeking a senior environmental leader who can combine deep technical credibility with genuine commercial firepower to help drive the next phase of growth.
The Role
As the Technical and Commercial Lead – Ecology, you will operate at a senior, influential level within the business, providing both technical leadership on complex ecology and environmental approvals projects and commercial leadership across key client accounts and growth opportunities.
Reporting to the Executive Director – Commercial, this is a high-impact role where you will steward opportunities from early engagement through to delivery, lead major bids, influence senior clients, and convert long-standing relationships into revenue. You will act as a trusted advisor to executive-level stakeholders while mentoring and providing quality assurance to senior ecology practitioners nationally.
This role suits someone equally comfortable discussing biodiversity offsets under the EPBC Act as they are negotiating scope, risk and value with senior client decision-makers.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance on complex ecology, biodiversity, offsets and environmental approvals projects across QLD and Commonwealth jurisdictions
- Where appropriate, act as Project Director on major, high-value ecology and approvals projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial outcomes and risk management
- Lead business development activities across priority sectors including gas infrastructure/resources, energy and major infrastructure
- Leverage established senior-level networks to originate, develop and convert opportunities with key clients
- Personally lead and secure new work contributing materially to gross revenue targets
- Actively manage and grow key client accounts, influencing at managerial and executive levels
- Lead and contribute to major tenders and proposals, shaping win strategies and value propositions
- Promote the organisation’s brand and capability through industry engagement, technical panels and thought leadership
- Mentor senior ecology team members and support the development of high-performing technical and commercial capability
- Work closely with commercial and discipline leaders to deliver capture and win strategies aligned with business growth objectives
You are a highly respected ecology or environmental approvals professional with a strong reputation in the market and the confidence to operate at senior levels of business. You bring deep technical knowledge, but critically, you can apply that expertise through a commercial lens.
You are known for your ability to open doors, influence outcomes, and translate long-term relationships into sustained revenue. You enjoy leading from the front - shaping opportunities, guiding teams, and being accountable for results.
Required Skills and Proficiencies
With tertiary qualifications in science, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline, you will bring extensive knowledge of Queensland and federal environmental approvals legislation and frameworks. A strong understanding of ecological and biodiversity assessment, offsets and impact management will be fundamental to the success in this role.
With over 12 years’ experience in ecology, environmental approvals or related consulting roles, the successful candidate will have built senior-level networks and credibility across gas infrastructure, resources, energy and major infrastructure sectors, and can leverage these relationships to originate and progress commercially viable opportunities. They combine technical rigour with strong commercial acumen, with proven experience managing opportunities end-to-end from lead through to delivery. Their strengths include client influence, negotiation and relationship management, as well as leading major tenders and managing multiple concurrent workstreams, with a consistent track record of converting relationships into revenue and delivering against growth targets.
