Senior Environmental Advisor

Permanent - Full Time

Exciting opportunity to accelerate your career with a successful boutique Environmental Consultancy in regional VIC

  • Strong environmental consulting experience
  • Opportunity to work across development, operational and mine rehabilitation
  • Role can be based in Ballarat, Bendigo, Melbourne, Geelong or regional VIC
The Company

Talent Nation is partnering with Grounded Resource Advisory (GRA), a boutique environmental consultancy based in regional Victoria.
GRA works closely with exploration, mining and extractive industry clients across Victoria and interstate. They partner with operators to navigate complex environmental approvals, compliance and operational challenges, providing practical, well-considered advice that stands up both on paper and on-site. Their work spans the full project life cycle, from early-stage approvals through to construction, operations, rehabilitation, closure and relinquishment.
GRA is known for its pragmatic approach, strong client relationships and deep understanding of how environmental approvals actually translate into real-world operations.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to play a key role at GRA, delivering environmental approvals, advisory and project support services across mining, critical minerals, quarrying and the broader resources sector.
This is a senior technical advisory role suited to someone who understands how environmental approvals and technical assessments are operationalised on active sites, not just prepared in isolation. You will work closely with clients, regulators and specialist consultants to coordinate inputs, interpret regulatory feedback and deliver clear, defensible documentation.
While the role offers flexibility and autonomy, it also requires accountability, transparency and confidence in managing client relationships over time.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to impact assessment and environmental approvals processes as well as audit and risk management
  • Coordinate and integrate technical inputs across multiple disciplines
  • Translate regulatory and technical requirements into practical, operationally realistic outcomes for clients
  • Develop environmental management programs to comply with the General Duty to manage environmental and social impacts
  • Liaise directly with government regulators, interpret feedback and manage iterative approval responses
  • Review, write and edit technical reports and advisory documentation
  • Support clients during operational phases, including audits, compliance, secondments and implementation support
  • Work with trusted sub-consultants and specialists to scope and deliver supporting studies
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and sound technical judgement
About You

This role will suit an experienced environmental professional who brings broad sector-relevant technical knowledge, practical operational insight and confidence engaging with both regulators and clients.
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, listening carefully to client objectives and managing complex approval conversations with diplomacy. You understand that long-term outcomes depend on trust, credibility and strong relationships.
You enjoy working with autonomy in a fast-paced, direct environment and bring an owner’s mindset to your work - taking responsibility for outcomes without needing formal authority, as well as being proactive in your internal and external communication.

Required Skills and Proficiencies
  • Solid exposure to mining, minerals, resources, quarrying or closely related operational environments
  • On-the-ground environmental approvals and management experience is highly regarded; consultants with broad multi-site exposure are also encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating approvals and technical documentation in response to government requirements
  • Ability to quickly interpret and work within relevant legislation and permitting frameworks
  • Excellent technical writing capability
  • Strong communication, listening and facilitation skills
  • Confidence to progressively take on day-to-day client interaction and act as a trusted advisor
The Rewards and Culture

At GRA, you’ll work in a flexible, trust-based environment with experienced, technical and action-oriented leaders. The culture is direct, fast-paced and focused on delivery, but also values good judgement, collaboration and long-term relationships.
The role offers a highly flexible working environment, with predominantly remote work and the option to use shared office space weekly or fortnightly, depending on your location. You’ll receive a competitive remuneration package aligned to your experience, along with genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape the role over time.
You’ll join a supportive, high-caliber team that values integrity, trust and practical outcomes, with exposure to a broader range of projects than is typically available in larger, multi-disciplinary multinational consulting firms. Career growth opportunities are of great emphasis in GRA, including continual professional development, conference attendance and further training as required.
