Our client, The Breakthrough Office (TBO), is a purpose-led organisation providing payroll services to a diverse portfolio of not-for-profit organisations across Australia.
The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Payroll Officer to join a growing team in a full-time permanent position in Melbourne. Working in a hybrid environment, you will support the accurate and timely processing of payroll for multiple NFP clients, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and exceptional client service.
This role is ideal for an early-career payroll professional or someone looking to further develop their payroll expertise within a supportive and structured environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist with end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients across varying pay frequencies.
- Support compliance with Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and relevant payroll legislation.
- Process payroll variations including terminations, leave entitlements, allowances, and superannuation.
- Reconcile payroll reports and assist with month-end and year-end payroll activities.
- Respond to payroll enquiries from clients and employees in a professional and timely manner.
- Identify, investigate, and escalate payroll discrepancies when required.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Proficiencies
- A completed Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, or equivalent experience (min of 3 years) in an admin or payroll support role.
- Working understanding of payroll processes and a willingness to learn payroll legislation and award interpretation.
- Experience with payroll or accounting software (KeyPay, Xero Payroll, or similar highly regarded).
- High attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to your work.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, client-focused manner.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to take initiative when needed.
