The role

Umwelt are seeking to appoint a Senior Archaeologist to provide delivery of Aboriginal cultural heritage/archaeological projects and historical archaeological projects. This work will include scoping, planning, managing and actively completing projects to provide a fully integrated outcome. The successful applicant will be a ‘self-starter’, with strong commitment skills and the ability to seek out relevant data and other information required for effective project work and reporting.

This role presents a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Archaeologist to undertake and support a wide range of Aboriginal cultural heritage/archaeological projects and historical archaeological projects primarily located throughout NSW.

About you

You are a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Archaeologist who will bring at least 5 years previous relevant working experience, as well as sound knowledge of State and Commonwealth legislation. With tertiary qualifications in Archaeology (Honours degree or higher as a minimum) you will have demonstrated experience in:

  • Management of Aboriginal and historical archaeological projects
  • Consultation with Aboriginal parties
  • Preparation of robust and defendable reports, including Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Plans, Statements of Heritage Impact, Historical Archaeological Assessments, Archival Recordings and Salvage Reports
  • Obtaining and implementing Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit, Excavation Permits and Exemption/Exceptions
  • Archaeological surveys, test excavation, monitoring, excavation, recording and analysis of artefacts
  • Working with statutory authorities, including the Office of Environment and Heritage, Heritage Division and local councils;
